Ekapa is committed to investing in the education, development, and training of South Africa’s youth.
Ekapa is dedicated to developing and expanding the knowledge and skills base of the South African mining industry. We provide the youth of South Africa with various opportunities to acquire qualifications, develop and advance their knowledge and skills, and ultimately, build a career in the mining industry.

Focusing mainly on the youth in our labour-sending area of Frances Baard District Municipality, Ekapa offers the following education, development, and training programmes:

Scholarships
At Ekapa, we believe in investing in the education and development of our youth - the future leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs of our country - to ensure a sustainable future for our communities, the mining industry and South Africa.
Ekapa’s scholarship programme provides high school learners who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need with the opportunity to unlock their academic and leadership potential and develop into well-rounded individuals.
The scholarship includes partial sponsorship for school fees, textbooks, uniform, stationery and sporting/cultural activities up to a specific amount allocated.

Who can apply?
Grade 10, 11 and 12 scholars who:
- Reside in the local community and attend a local school (South African citizen);
- Achieved an average mark of 70% in their previous exam, with at least 60% in mathematics and science;
- Display a good balance between academic achievement and extra-curricular performance in sports and/or culture; and
- Are recommended by their school principal.

Bursaries
At Ekapa, we are committed to investing in the education, development and training of our youth to positively contribute to the knowledge and skills base of the South African mining industry.
Our bursary programme supports second-year students enrolled at a South African tertiary institution in a mining related fields to complete their qualifications, obtain invaluable work experience and start building their careers in the mining industry.
The value of the bursary includes full tuition fees, full residence and meals, annual cash and travel allowance, life skills training (if applicable), and compulsory practical vacation employment during December and January at various Ekapa operations.
Our bursary programme supports second-year students enrolled at a South African tertiary institution in a mining related fields to complete their qualifications, obtain invaluable work experience and start building their careers in the mining industry.

Who can apply?
Second-year students enrolled at a South African tertiary institution in one of the following fields of study:
- Mining Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Metallurgy
Application requirements:
- Applicants must be a South African citizen (preference will be giving to applicants from the Ekapa labour sending area of Frances Baard District Municipality).
- Applicants must be registered and accepted for second-year modules at a University or University of Technology to study in one of the above fields (preference will be given to students enrolled at the University of Witwatersrand or the University of Pretoria).
- Applicants must have achieved good results during their first year of studies.

Apprenticeships
Ekapa is dedicated to investing in the technical skills training of our country’s youth to address the shortage of qualified and experienced artisans across several disciplines within the South African mining industry.
The apprenticeship programme combines theoretical training, practical work, and workplace practice in the chosen trade discipline. Training will take place over three years and will include theory training at an accredited Mining Qualifications Training Centre as determined by Ekapa Minerals.

Who can apply?
Our apprenticeship programme offers interested and suitably qualified youth the opportunity to pursue a trade qualification in one of the following disciplines:
- Auto Electricians
- Boilermakers
- C & I Mechanician
- Diesel Mechanic
- Earth Moving Mechanics
- Electrical
- Fitter & Turner
- Rigger
