Last Saturday marked a significant event for the Yorkshire Cricket Club when Ekapa Mines, a prominent name in the mining industry, generously sponsored tracksuits for five of the club’s teams, including the women’s team. The importance of this gesture was not overlooked by those present, signifying a crucial moment in the club’s history.
Khonjiwe Mjacu, representing Ekapa Mines, played a crucial role in bringing this sponsorship to fruition. With a sincere dedication to supporting the local community and promoting sports’ growth, Ekapa Mines took the initiative to support the Yorkshire Cricket Club, further solidifying the connection between local businesses and the community.
The Yorkshire Cricket Club experienced a moment of immense pride and gratitude during the tracksuit handover. Thabo Maupa, the dedicated coach of the ladies’ team, accepted the tracksuits on behalf of the players, symbolising the unity and determination that define the club’s spirit. The smiles and camaraderie shared on that day vividly expressed the club’s appreciation for the sponsorship. While the photo capturing the tracksuit handover highlighted the enthusiasm and optimism surrounding the partnership, it didn’t include an essential figure: Mbulelo Bosman, the Chairman of the Yorkshire Cricket Club.
Mr. Bosman did, however, take the opportunity to convey, through the DFA, his deepest appreciation to Khonjiwe of Ekapa, recognising the tremendous value that this sponsorship brings to the club. He emphasised that Ekapa Mines’ support goes beyond clothing; it is an investment in the future of young, talented cricketers.
This sponsorship holds particular significance for the Yorkshire Cricket Club, marking their second clothing sponsorship since De Beers sponsored the club in 2000. Ekapa Mines’ generous act not only underscores their commitment to the local community but also reflects their belief in the club’s potential to thrive and make an impact in the cricketing world.
Now well-equipped and motivated, thanks to the generosity of Ekapa Mines, the Yorkshire Cricket Club looks forward to achieving great success on the field.
With their new tracksuits and a strong sense of unity, the club is poised to foster the spirit of cricket in Yorkshire.

Loving Hearts Soup Kitchen
Soccer Sponsorship
Ekapa’s employees care for their communities and are involved in a number of initiatives to make a difference in their private capacity as well. One example is the Loving Hearts Soup Kitchen that is managed by one of our employees.
This registered non-profit organisation strives to alleviate poverty among the elderly and children with HIV/Aids, disabilities and the under privileged in the Roodepan area. It focuses on more than just supplying food to the communities - it also focuses on creating healthy entertainment for the youth. To support our employees’ efforts and increase the impact even further, Ekapa donated much-needed soccer equipment.
From soccer kits to balls, nets, cones, hurdles and water bottles, the organisation had everything they needed to keep the youngsters busy in a healthy and constructive manner. This contributed not only to their physical needs but also to their social and personal development. Creating stronger communities together.

Investing In Our Youth in Partnership with Sol Plaatje University
Ekapa is proudly working hand in hand with Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in educating the biologists of the future.
Two postgraduate students from SPU are kicking off their research projects with assistance and guidance from both SPU and the Ekapa Environmental department in 2021. The practical section of these projects will be facilitated on Rooifontein and the mining area for the next year. The students, all in different fields of science, will contribute to knowledge and research that can help with the rehabilitation of diamond mines in future.
Ekapa is a proud supporter of education in partnership with Sol Plaatje University
