Holds The Controlling Share

Marcel Golding

Marcel Golding was born in Johannesburg and is an alumnus of Alexander Sinton High School in Cape Town.

Marcel holds an honours degree in B.Arts and has served on the boards of several companies, and joined Ekapa in 2002.

He co-founded HCI (Hosken Consolidated Investments, an investment holding company) and served as executive chairman of HCI, as well as and chief executive officer of e-tv until 2014. Prior to this, he was a member of parliament and deputy general secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).

Additionally, his experience includes years in the retail, gaming, property, and investment banking sectors.

Marcel holds the controlling share in the Ekapa Group.

Chief Executive Officer

Jahn Hohne

Born in 1957, matriculated in 1974 At Christian Brothers College, Pretoria, Graduated as a GIA Gemologist (Gemological Institute of America) Santa Monica, California, USA in 1983 obtaining a much sought after ‘Rough Diamond Dealer Licence’ granted due to the respected GIA qualification.

In 1984 Jahn founded, established, commissioned and managed his own mining company which has evolved into the current Ekapa Mining.

Ekapa Minerals (Pty) Ltd was established in 2004, as the processing, continue beneficiation, marketing and sales company of Ekapa Mining (Pty) Ltd for international export/import of rough and polished diamonds.

Currently Jahn is the CEO of Kimberley Ekapa Minerals and responsible for 1500 employees in the combined Kimberley underground and TMR mining and processing venture.

Jahn is also the CEO and shareholder of Diaruk (Pty) Ltd an aircraft charter company operating out of Kimberley South Africa and is a qualified pilot.

Surface Mining Director

Peter Hohne

Peter was born in 1958 in the city of Johannesburg. He matriculated at Christian Brothers College in Pretoria in 1976.

After completing his compulsory military service, where he qualified as a diver in the South African Navy, Peter dived on the West Coast for diamonds before enrolling at the Cape Technikon for a Civil Engineering Diploma and National Higher Diploma, which he obtained in 1986.

He worked in the United Kingdom as a freelance Civil Engineer for five years before returning to South Africa in 1992 to join Supermix as General Manager and later Super Stone Mining as a Director and shareholder. He is currently a Director and shareholder of Ekapa Mining and is the Surface Mining Manager.

Peter has an adventurous side and enjoys spending time outdoors. He is a seasoned pilot and also likes mountain biking, swimming, photography, sailing and beekeeping. He loves being in nature and has a keen interest in nature conservation.

General Manager

Howard Marsden

Howard was born in 1974 in the city of Johannesburg. He matriculated at Pretoria Boys High in 1992.

He completed his BSc Mining Engineering degree at the University of Witwatersrand (WITS) in 1996. In 2006 he obtained his Masters in Engineering and in 2012 he obtained his MBA from the University of Warwick (UK).

He’s been part of the mining industry since 1993. He started his career on the deep level gold mines, where after he moved across to De Beers at Cullinan where he gained invaluable underground experience in cave mining.

He then joined Gem Diamonds and did a stint in Botswana and Australia. He became part of the Petra Mining team in 2013 and the Ekapa team in 2016.

His years of hands-on experience in mining provide incredible insight and value to the Ekapa management team.

Howard loves spending his time outdoors and is a mountain-biking, horse-riding and birdwatching enthusiast.

Chief Financial Officer

Suzanne Van Den Berg

Suzanne was born in 1983 in the town of Kimberley.  She matriculated in 2001 at Northern Cape High School. 

She obtained her B.Com Chartered Accounting (Honours) degree from the North-West University in 2005 and completed her articles at PwC from 2006 – 2009.

Suzanne was registered as qualified Chartered Accountant – CA (SA) with SAICA in 2009.  Post articles, she was promoted to Assistant Manager at PwC and later to Manager in 2011.

She was appointed as Financial Manager at Super Stone Mining in 2012 and as Financial Manager of KEM JV after the merger of Super Stone, Petra and Kimberley Underground Mines. She is the CFO of the Ekapa Group.

Suzanne has an eye for an excellent photograph and enjoys taking pictures of wildlife. She is also the proud mommy of triplets.
