Ekapa is located in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, near the Free State border. Ekapa Mining owns 100% of Ekapa Resources and Ekapa Minerals. Ekapa Resources holds the underground mining rights, while Ekapa Minerals holds the surface mining rights. The operation functions as a single entity and consists of five units: Joint Shaft, Wesselton, Combined Treatment Plant (CTP), Surface Mining, and Services & Support, which allows for a comprehensive approach to diamond extraction.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Surveyor to join our team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for providing surveying activities on the mine. This position is based at Service and Support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to)

  • Maintain good relationships with production and other functions on the mine to render a survey service that supports the operational viability of Ekapa Mine
  • Function as an underground shaft surveyor, dealing with production requests, comply with legal standards, lead a survey field team as supervisor, plan daily tasks, organise transport and equipment and exercise control and discipline of subordinates
  • Function as a surface surveyor establishing surface ground control points for aerial surveys, using GPS and handheld mobile scanners to measure stockpiles, waste and tailings dumps, install, maintain and monitor stability monitoring stations around pit crests, stake out and measure exploration boreholes and production blast holes
  • Underground peg installation and excavation offsetting – Using a totalstation equipped with scanner to install side wall pegs using resection surveys for secondary survey control, gradient and direction lines and lidar scan the excavation to represent in CAD 3D
  • Line up underground drill rigs for exploration and cover drilling
  • Produce peg calculation records, maintain peg index registers, update CAD survey work plans as input for the drawing office and compile survey notes using Bentley Microstation CAD
  • Do underground check surveys in primary development using tunnel roof pegs with long survey bases to checks the accuracy of the secondary survey network to ensure good underground holing and to meet the legal accuracy prescribed by law
  • Do structural surveys using engineering designs, stake outs and measure as-build surveys both on surface and underground
  • Compile reports according to departmental and client requirements by analysing and interpreting survey-related information. E.g. tonnage Reconciliations, overbreak and underbreak calculations
  • Ensure care and routine maintenance and servicing of equipment in daily use by survey team for compliance to code of practice and continuous uninterrupted service delivery
  • Do month end measurements, surface or underground, work out development meters and volumes for timeously and accurate month end survey reports
  • Liaises with the Geology Department daily to ensure that geological information and prospect holes are accurately represented on plan

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • National Diploma in Mine Surveying
  • COM Elementary Survey and Advanced Mine Survey Certificate
  • 5 years’ surveying experience in the mining industry of which minimum 3 years underground.
  • Valid driver’s licence

ADVANTAGEOUS

  • Tech Degree in Mineral Resource Management
  • National Certificate: Generic Management Level 5
  • Experience with terrestrial lidar scanners Eg. Geoslam
  • Experience installing road runner survey pegs underground.
