Ekapa is situated in Kimberley in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, near the Free State border. Ekapa Mining is the 100% owner of Ekapa Resources and Ekapa Minerals. Ekapa Resources is the owner of the underground mining rights and Ekapa Minerals is the owner of the surface mining rights. It is operated as one entity and comprises five units, namely Joint Shaft, Wesselton, Combined Treatment Plant (CTP), Surface Mining and Services and Support.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Investigate, diagnose, and perform trade-related maintenance and repairs on equipment/machinery in accordance with sound engineering practices and equipment specifications.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diagnose faults and perform maintenance of machines and breakdowns
  • Report defects and breakdowns to Foreman
  • Develop, improve, construct, and install related equipment for safe operation.
  • Repair equipment and machinery according to maintenance standard
  • Ensure compliance to Statutory requirements, Policies, Procedures and Code of Practice
  • Communicate with clients and supervisors regarding maintenance activities and equipment availability
  • Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure
  • Perform inspections in accordance with Mine Health and Safety Act and OEM specifications
  • Maintain and create job cards for unscheduled maintenance
  • Supervise Engineering Assistants
  • Responsible for trade related administration
  • Perform Risk Assessments
  • Training & Development: Conduct on-the-job training for apprentices, sharing expertise and ensuring adherences to best practices

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fitter Trade Certificate
  • 3 years post Apprenticeship/Qualification experience
  • 3 years’ experience in a Process Plant Environment
  • Valid driver’s license (EB)
  • Documentation: Candidates with a QCTO (Section 26D) Trade Test must submit a statement of results from an accredited MQA trade test centre and evidence of training conducted at a technical centre (e.g., Portfolio of Evidence, Logbooks). Applications without these documents will not be considered.
  • Non-Consideration: Candidates with S28 Trade Test certificates from non-mining sector centres will not be considered.

OTHER SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Independent, proactive thinker and can do their own job planning
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of conveyor belts, pumps, scrubbers, and crushers.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
