Ekapa is situated in Kimberley in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, near the Free State border. Ekapa Mining is the 100% owner of Ekapa Resources and Ekapa Minerals. Ekapa Resources is the owner of the underground mining rights and Ekapa Minerals is the owner of the surface mining rights. It is operated as one entity and comprises five units, namely Joint Shaft, Wesselton, Combined Treatment Plant (CTP), Surface Mining and Services and Support.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Operate a mobile crane and any other equipment for which he/she has been authorised at the same substantive grade or lower according to laid down operating instructions, procedures and manuals. This position is based at CTP.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive, hoist, and lower materials and equipment using a mobile crane
  • Ensure crane stability at the working site
  • Safely drive crane to the working area
  • Timeously identify symptoms that can result in mechanical breakdowns, by observing gauges, identifying abnormal sounds and performing visual inspections
  • Operates and maintains equipment according to the OEM specifications and Ekapa Procedures
  • Perform a pre-start check on crane according to pre-start checklist and report defects to the Supervisor.
  • Clean crane unit as per standard operating procedure
  • Perform risk assessments (General and Mini)
  • Adhere to all Safety, Health, Environmental as well as Company policies and procedures

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12
  • Certificate of Competence: To operate +50 ton – Mobile Hydraulic Crane Operator Training
  • Valid code 14 driver’s license with PDP is essential.
  • Possible candidate to pass Vienna test and legal compliant training before appointment.
  • Experience in the operating of earthmoving machines
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively.
  • 2 years Crane Driver experience

ADVANTAGEOUS:

  • Experience in Rigging activities will be advantageous

OTHER SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:

  • Communication skills
  • Independent proactive thinking and the ability to do job planning
  • Willingness to work overtime.
  • Ability to operate a Mobile Crane
